Community Memory

This database began as a project of the Dublin Heritage Group, a partnership venture between Dublin City Libraries and FAS. The output of this project accrued to Dublin City Public Libraries and is being developed as part of the Library’s Memory Dublin project series.

This project arises from an objective to create a database of all those named on commemorative plaques around the city - in churches, public institutions and open spaces.

What is included? All those named on plaques, from large war memorials, to honour boards of presidents / officers of societies, family monuments, down to the single name on a kneeling board. 1950 was chosen as the cut-off date. Gravestones have been excluded and no house commemorative plaques have been included.

Seventy-eight locations have been recorded, creating 14,834 records.

The database can be searched via the main search page.
