ABOUT THIS PROJECT
The Dublin Directory 1647-1706 has been compiled for online publication from contemporary sources at Dublin City Library & Archive and at the Royal Irish Academy. The data consists of names of Dublin citizens; the parish or street in which they lived; in some instances their trade or occupation; and if payment of taxes or fines is recorded, the amount paid in each instance.
The Dublin Directory 1647-1706 is a Dublin City Council project, under the overall direction of Dublin City Librarian Margaret Hayes. Transcript of data from the Dublin City Cess Book 1647-49 is by Dr. Mary Clark, Dublin City Archivist and by archivist Monica Fuentes Jimenez, Leonardo da Vinci scholar at Dublin City Library & Archive, January-March 2013. Transcript of data from Principal Inhabitants of the City of Dublin and Dublin City Pipe Water Accounts is by Monica Fuentes Jimenez. Transcript of data from the Dublin City Census 1660-61 is by Finola Frawley, Dublin City Archives. Permission to include data from the Dublin City Census 1660-61 has been granted by the Royal Irish Academy. The earliest extant printed Directory of Dublin dates from 1752 and the first issue of Thom's Dublin Directory is dated 1844. A printed Directory of Dublin for the year 1738 was compiled by Nodlaig Hardiman and Dr. Maire Kennedy from contemporary sources and was published in the year 2000. These materials are available for consultation in the Reading Room at Dublin City Library & Archive, Pearse Street, Dublin 2, along with a full run of Dublin almanacks and directories from 1752 to the present day.
